Internship Programs

The Des Moines County Attorney's Office welcomes students to intern with our office. We are looking for students dedicated to the highest degree of professionalism. If you are interested in employment as a prosecutor, victim service professional, law enforcement or curious about how our criminal justice system works, interning is a great way to gain insight in these fields.

Criminal Justice/Social Science Internship Program

An internship with our office will give you hands-on experience in the criminal justice field. You will work with the assistant county attorneys, victim service providers, and law enforcement. You will become familiar with the courts, public defenders and defense attorneys. You will attend criminal court proceedings, ride along with police and sheriff's deputies, tour correctional facilities, help with victim services, assist with subpoena service, and many other duties as assigned. All interns will be exposed to the inner workings of the county attorney's office. (Program Brochure )

HOURS

Time commitment of 40 hours per week - 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday thru Friday.

CONFIDENTIALITY

The intern shall not discuss specifics of any case prosecuted by the office with anyone other than office staff.

MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the Des Moines County Attorney's Office to "Respond to the needs and concerns of its citizens by always striving to find the truth, to seek Justice and to provide quality criminal investigations, criminal prosecutions, victim/witness services, crime prevention programs and civil legal representation with available resources."

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Must be enrolled in an accredited college.
Student must provide his or her own transportation.
Submit to a criminal history background check.

Legal Intern Program

Second year law students are eligible for a paid internship with the Des Moines County Attorney's Office when they meet statutory and any other requirements established by their law school. Legal interns have the opportunity to try misdemeanors in both bench and jury trials.
