Roadside Prairies:

In the right locations, the Roadside Management Department plants native prairies within the right of way. These plantings do many things when established:

• Provide competition against weeds and brush
• Provide excellent soil stabilization and enhance ground water quality
• Are low maintenance
• Provide some habitat for wildlife
• Are aesthetically pleasing

Roadside prairies are scattered throughout the county, but some of the better locations include:

• Geode State Park - east side of dam
• South Prairie Grove Road - about 2 miles North of race tracks
• Irish Ridge Road - Along Starr's Cave Preserve
• Golf Course Road
