Senior Group Presentations

  • Blood Pressure Clinics

    Blood Pressure Clinics are offered at the Health Department every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Other Blood Pressure Clinics are offered periodically at sites throughout the county. Education is provided to the individual regarding the risks, prevention, treatment, and the follow-up of heart disease and stroke.

  • Car Seat Safety Education and Loaner Program

    Classes are held 1-2 times a month. The class is mandatory to participate in the Loaner Program. Instruction includes current safety recommendations of NHTSA in addition to Iowa's Safety Belt Laws. There is no charge for the class, which is open to the public.

  • Childhood Lead Poison Prevention Program

    After a child is identified as lead poisoned, health department staff will do a home visit to identify the lead hazard. Education and referrals are provided regarding nutrition and developmental screening, effects of lead poisoning and the remediation of the lead hazard.

  • Communicable Disease

    Disease surveillance and investigations are done to determine the source and spread of infectious diseases. This program is to determine the extent of infection and the risk of disease so that measures can be quickly and effectively applied.

  • HIV Testing

    As an Iowa State Alternate Testing Site, HIV antibody testing (AIDS oral test) and counseling is provided by appointment at no charge. Referral to community services available for other sexually transmitted diseases.

  • Home Care:

    Home Health Care is skilled nursing and other medically related health services provided for a sick or disabled person in the home. Care is given with orders and direction of a physician.

  • Home Care Nursing Is?

    1. Skilled nursing visits to care for clients with acute or chronic illness
    2. Skilled care after an injury or surgery
    3. Teaching to clients or care givers about an illness, medication, diet or medical procedures
    4. Assistance in obtaining safety or medical equipment of supplies
    5. Referral arrangement Home Care Service
    6. Counseling and teaching on infant and child care

    Anyone who needs any of the services listed, regardless of race, color, age or sex.

  • Home Visitor Program

    Home visits by a registered nurse to all families with newborns. Nurses from Great River Medical Center make the first visit and then a Public Health Nurse makes subsequent visits. Because being a new parent is hard work we will help them through the rough spots, through home visits, education and guidance.

  • Immunization Clinics

    Walk-in Immunization Clinics are held on Monday-Wednesday-Friday 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. (Note the above times will change after January 1st, 2012. See notation below.)

    As of January 1, 2012 walk-in Immunization Clinics will only be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. TB testing will be done on Tuesdays & read on Thursdays only.

    Childhood immunizations are provided under the Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program at no cost to children birth through 18 years of age who meet at least one of the following criteria: Medicaid eligible, Uninsured, Underinsured, American Indian or Alaska Native. Children whose health insurance covers the cost of vaccinations are not eligible.

    Stocked adult vaccines available for purchase include: Td, MMR, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Pneumonia, Influenza (seasonal each October - November) and TB tests.

    Immunization card audit reports for schools, preschools, and day cares are completed yearly to check compliance with the state law.

    Consultation is available on international travel requirements.

    Medicare, Medicaid, Insurance, Frail Elderly Waiver, Self Payment
    If you do not have health care coverage for skilled nursing and are unable to pay the full fee requested, a sliding fee would be considered in accordance with your finances, medical needs and funds available.

    Health Department staff will provide presentations to scouts, civic, social, or church groups on topics such as:
